I hate my job!

I really hate my job! I have been having this problem at work with the move of work from one part of the UK to another! Now the problem is that in my contract is this "ClawBack" for expenses made against me (for Training). Now I have started to look for gainful employment elsewhere and today I had a meeting with our Human Resources people, I asked about this "ClawBack" and they said that until a certain time the "ClawBack" would still be in effect, I think that this is worng because they are stopping people who have no intention of moving from finding new work before they move, giving them / us less time to look for work and ultimately to make us be unemployed....

Any ideas?

Here's an idea: get yourself down to the union on Saturday, I'm told there's gonna be strippers :)

I think that they might not let me in - mainly because I am not a student.

You'd need to get signed off by someone in the NUS, I think you need to do that before about 7:30 pm and then so long as they know yo're coming they will let you in when you turn up with the same person that signed for you. Not sure if they charge for non-students but probably not.

The thing that is irritating the most is that I have started to apply for a new job (in various companies), and the "ClawBack" is the only thing that is stopping me from leaving as soon as I have found a new job because it is going to be about £1500 (possibly a bit less)....

Inform them that unless they waive the clawback you'll actively start looking for work with a direct competitor.

Although there's nothing wrong with that, the implications will be readily apparent to your boss.

(also a good way of bypassing the notice period on your job - they won't force you to stay if you're going to work for a competitor...)

I would try to work for a direct competitor but we have none........ We are National Grid.... So there aren't any- apart from the govenment.

I have said that I am actively looking for new work because I have no intention of staying on a sinking (or more to the point moving) ship.

My immediate boss just told me that if I jump ship now (sorry for all the sailing references) then I will be whacked with the full bill (about £1500 approx). Though they can only ask for it because it is severely unlikely that they will take me to court as they will not want the bad publicity!

They can't force you to move can they?

Just say - right, I'm staying put until my clawback expires then I'm buggering off. If you don't like it, see you at the tribunal.

They can almost force me to move if this clawback doesn't go away, but I think that if I wait a month or two it might change in the situation ... still it doesn't help if I find a better job elsewhere and want to take it.. I could get hit with a big bill......

Other than that I don't think that they can force me to move, but I wouldn't put it past them!

They can't legally take the money out of your salary so you can just refuse to hand over a cheque.

Are you actually doing the job you were employed to do? A couple of people I know got out of their relocation expenses that way.

It all depends on how much you want a good reference.

Reference wise, it doesn't really matter, but I just want this ClawBack part to go away so I can leave without a problem!
