When I try to run any setup file from programs I download (demos of course ;)) It launches DOS-protected mode and then goes into the sound config for a very old game named Cavewars!! I've tried it with many many different programs and the same thing happens. I cleared out my temp files, still no change. I'm out of ideas and internet searches didn’t turn up anything. Any help would be appreciated!

Try deleting the contents of c:\win98\pif

Check your System.ini , Autoexec.bat and config.sys for
Possible Problems(an unsupported real mode driver for example).

Pif
That Pif solution worked half way. Now what happens is the sound config pops up...but the installation also runs. The system.ini, autoexec.bat, etc seem to be in order. Is there anything else you can think of? (thanks again..I at least can install things now :))
