[RESOLVED] Windows explorer -- window sizing
Many applications will remember the window size when you start the app -- a good thing. I can fit my Windows media player to the upper right corner if I want and everytime I start it, wah lah.
But XP Windows explorer (which is called "Internet explorer" in the title bar for some odd reason) (anyone notice that?) -- will not allow any resizing at all for some reason.
I've tried everything.
Holding the shift key while closing (or the ctl key) -- properties maximize -- you name it.
I want windows explorer to fit in the bottom part of the screen whenever I start it.
Anyone have a fix for this?
THANKS.
Re: Windows explorer -- window sizing
Which Service Pack are you using? Try 3 if you are not using it already. I think there might be a way to change the size via the registry but I am not sure.
Re: Windows explorer -- window sizing
I have all XP updates.
Only thing I've seen is a program called "Winsize" but it was written for Win95 and there is only one download site that doesn't work.
If anyone has a cure -- that would be great.
Unreal that something like this is a problem.
Simple -- when I play my music files, I want media player on the top of the screen (no problem there) and explorer on the bottom.
(I like to sometimes delete files after I've heard them).
I haven't thought of this but maybe I can write something in VBnet that will do the trick. ?
Re: Windows explorer -- window sizing
How do you open the windows explorer?
Do this...
Click on the "Windows" button (next to spacebar) and press the "E" button to open it and then set it to the respective size that you want. Close it and open it again. It will remember it. If it doesn't post a screen shot...
Hope this helps...
Re: Windows explorer -- window sizing
Here's what's happening.
In my shorcut properties I always had /explorer.exe \e so it would open with an expanded view.
I deleted that shortcut.
I then went to programs>accessories>windows explorer and made a new desktop shortcut and all is fine, I can resize and it will remember.
However, when I add that /e in properties, it won't remember sizing AND in the title bar it calls itself "Internet explorer" ! rather than "my documents".
weird.
I'll just live without the /e suffix I guess.
Pain because you have to open the folders tree.
Re: Windows explorer -- window sizing
If I understand what you want to achieve - Try this .....
Click on Start ~~> Programs ~~> Accessories ~~> Windows Explorer
Right click and select Properties.
In the target box replace %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe with %SystemRoot%\explorer.scf.
This will cause Explorer to open with My Computer expanded in the left hand pane.
Then setup Explorer as you want for, say, C:\Windows with the folder tree in the right hand pane and the columms which you wish to see visible. Then go to Tools > Folder Options > View and click 'Apply to all folders'.
Is this what you wanted?
