Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
Looks like they are launching it at the DevConnections event in Las Vegas
Also mentioned here - Vegas Launch
Now remember that this is the official launch date and not a release date. The release "should" be before the launch but you never know.
Many performance improvements have been added since the Beta 2 version release. It will be worth the wait! :)
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
I hope someone from the forum who is going can provide good feedback for those of us who can't get there.
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
Yea, I think Brad may, but its an expensive event. I think the cheapest discounted price I have seen is $1,695
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
Rob,
Please send me a DVD. You'll be getting one at the event. :D :D

I'd be extremely surprised if they handed it out on cd's VS 2010 Beta 1 is a DVD image file you download, Beta 2 is even bigger which fits on a DVD. I'd be willing to bet RTM will be on a DVD too.

Im sure you will have it downloaded some time before the launch. You have a msdn?
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
Well that is a good question :)
The answer....
...kind of.
I have an MSDN Subscription as part of the Microsoft Gold Partnership. I used to have download rights, but that might be getting taken away, meaning I have to first request the download from IT, which I can then pick up from a share, so there will be a slight delay. But I will be getting my request in early :)
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
Still you dont have to wait for a launch or buy it. :)
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
True :)
On a separate note, have you heard anything about Windows Mobile Development in VS 2010? It still seems to be missing from the Betas? Are they waiting for the release of Windows Mobile 7?

Is it possible to do windows mobile development in VS 2008 Express Editions?
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
Hey,
As far as I am aware, no, this isn't possible in the Express Edition.
Have a look here for more information:

I notice mobile development is not possible using Express Editions.
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
Yip, I saw that as well once I opened it, after posting the link :)
It is a handy reference to keep around though.
Re: Visual Studio 2010 New Launch Date Announced!
You need Pro or better for Mobile development in .Net, and as far as I can determine VS 2010 will not have Mobile support when first released. I'd love to see anything from Microsoft suggesting it will be ready by the release date though.
It almost looks as if plans for the future of the phone/PDA segment of the Windows CE device market are in furious revision. This could be a response to iPhone and Android, but who can say?
The remarks that I see from sources that appear authoritative suggest that WinMobile/WinPhone OS development cycles are entirely decoupled from Visual Studio tool development cycles. This suggests to me that VS 2010 will support it someday but short term you want VS 2008 Pro or better.
I've had good success with a few early projects here though using 3rd party development and packaging tools that make use of the COM and native support in WinMobile 6.x. An advantage there is that the programming language is VBScript, and so it's very close to VBCE, eVB, and VB6. When deployed the script is pretty well obfuscated by default, protecting your "source" code.

Hey,
Can you cite the sources that you make reference to? I would be interested to read them.
