I may have already mentioned this in another one of the forums or something but anyway...one last time...
An ROM exchange program with information of what sytem its for, genre, maker, etc. with built in emulators.
I really like that idea, and might use it, but it sure wont be making you millions...sorry...
here is a really challenging one:
I wouldn't mind seeing an OS That runs on a quake similar engine so that you do not open my computer you walk to it and in lets you create objects that you can interact with it is very complicated but you asked for a project:D
I have an idea for a project that!
I was helping my flat mate out the other day and wacked together a small distance calculator for him in a about 2 hours
It basically took longitude and latitude values for destination and departure airfields and then calculated the distance. i also provided him with a database to save airfield data to.
But once i got talking to him he asked if i could add aircraft types to this database and also let him calculate fuel loads, cruising speeds, best altitude, and generate a navigation chart based on the departure, destination and aircraft type. now heres the catch he said that there were a few programs available but they wernt user friendly or very intiuative and didnt let you add or update aircraft types.
so if you are keen im interested in tackling this one!!
let me know please
Hi !
You want a project to work on ?
take a look to my thread ( a VB Compilator )
I think you could learn lot's of things working with me... And when it 'll be finished, you will be able to share your VB programs WITHOUT runtimes :)
Think about it...
I got two projects in one for you.
1) Make an exe decompiler
2) Stop your programs from being decompiled by project 1!
Programmers and Writers suffer from the same curse. More often than not, whatever you think up has been thought up already by someone else. New Ideas are really few and far between. What you could do, is observe and talk to the people around you and find out what kind of programs would make life easier for them. Talk to businesses and large corporations and find out if the software they currently use really do the job. You might not create the first ever program of it's kind, but you could end up writing the best. As an idea, I am currently working on a messaging program that requires no server and works on TCP/IP.
Sounds interesting FirstKnight, I've investigated similar projects, tell me more. What language are you using?
Well Bob, The Idea is for a company to be able to send messages, files etc. to each other over a Lan, Extranet or Internet. I know you get stuff like ICQ or Yahoo messanger but what I want to do is make a simple yet affective program that works the same but on a much smaller scale and much faster. I'm using VB6 for this project.
sounds interesting I have toyed around with similar stuff I run a ICQ style app that utilizes winsock tech from vb 6, but of course this requires a server system that I've had to create, and to be quite honest winsock sucks. Have you written your own TCP/IP component?
hehe billfaceuk,
as far as project 1, it is relatively easy and there are 1,000 of very good disassemblers out there...
project 2: if your main idea is prevent cracking, well this is definitely not the way to go, a simple memory dump will allow a cracker to rebuild your program and see its code...
thanks for everyone on these ideas, there really are good ones ;)
Extreme: that is so movie-ish i like it! however i wouldn't go for a full OS, rather some kind of windows explorer: you walk, you click, you see the documents...
keep up posting ideas if you still have some,
cheers,
w.
The world doesnt just revolve around invention, but also innovation, meaning take an idea and expand on it and do it in a new way. There is nothing wrong with taking the idea behind ICQ and adding better features to it.Quote:

Ive been doing that. I have been writing a program that takes the idea of hotline ( http://www.hotline.com ) and expands on that idea with my own ideas.
I'd like a VB Add-in that can ease the god damn error handler writing ....

This could be a good idea but i think it would be better to develop it as a windows shell instead. There is a windows shell that is a bit like this (3d) but not to this extent, because you can turn things round, and the desktop is a cube or sphere and stuff like that. I am being vague coz i only used it for a few minutes and cant even remember what its called. But it would be much better if it were like a fps but with files and icons instead of people. It would be quite hard to do tho.
Actually I and my friend am looking for group to develop an Online Billing System For A Net Cafe... How about forming a team???
- Shrirang
...mmm... sound really interesting...
what exactly do you plan on doing?
Please mail me on [email protected]
This idea of a Quake-style FPS shell for windows intrigues me. Enough that I would be interested in helping make one. A FPS Shell could be a very interesting novelty, even if its not as easy to use as explorer.
I've played around with alternative windows shells, and they were all pretty buggy and similar to explorer.exe (expect litestep which is a whole other story). I know that litestep and geofront people are working on a standard 'shell services' thingy called 'Raptor' that looks after interfacing with windows for the system tray icons, taskbar etc. I also know that the full source code for Quake 1 has been released (I have it). Combining these two could save a lot of work on an FPS shell, making it a realistic project.
I know that I don't have enough skills at this time to do a project like this by myself but I'd be interested in working on it with someone else. So are you interested enough to have a go at it wildcat? or anyone else?
Herbatic I will help with this great idea it hase no real working value but it hase some great novelty value
i might be able to help w/ the ui on thisQuote:

Quake 1 is a very old game. It probably not even a windows game is it? It would probably be better to find a game that the source code has been realesed and is a bit more modern. I think the source code for Decent 2 or 3 is out but im not sure. If it is, this would have the advantage that they would not have to run along the ground, so you could have it truely 3D. Just a thought.
Ive come straight to this post to make a pointQuote:

ITS IMPOSSIBLE.
Skitchen8, lord_dude, nota141 and Herbatic...
we all seem to be interested in this project. therefore, i started looking out for code in glide 3dfx (otherwise, how do you think we can get to writing a 3D engine?). i found some interesting stuff, but definitely is something rather complex to learn (like vectors).
did someone of you start working on this yet? i guess we could get together to manage a very interesting project.
let me know what u think.
w.
Wildcat: Nota141 started a thread dedicated to this project which is here:http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=58840
I did some preliminary investigation on the project, but it sounds like you've done more than I have. I've got my hands on raptor (more on what that is in the thread above) and it's source code, but I haven't fiddled with it yet. This project was not getting anywere due to insufficient expertise, but hopefully it will get going again now that you've expressed your interest.
the thread mentioned above is actually http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=93661
make a java compiler with intellisense, that will make u rich!!!!
Emm, he was joking. :rolleyes:Quote:
