[RESOLVED] VS 2008 SP1 installation troubles
Although I don't need it I'm forced to apply it when attempting to install MS SQL 2008.
The odd part is that MS SQL's intallation wizard advises you at the end when almost everything is configured.
VS 2008 SP1 installation goes fine until almost very end (I'd say 90+% is completed) and then hangs.
I tried installing from the original dvd and most recent download (directly from MS) but to no avail...
Also, I couldn't find anything reasonable out there to get around this problem.
Is there anything that can be done to fix or at least bypass this issue?
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks much everybody.
Re: VS 2008 SP1 installation troubles
I managed to get SP1 installed on 7 Ultimate, though I believe that only happened on my second attempt (after the second time I installed 7U, that is). There weren't any issues on that second try. Of course, I was scrupulous about following the protocol regarding the chicken sacrifice, and did spend the time meditating on the good works of Saint Bill. Perhaps you left out one of those steps? Remember, the sauce for the chicken has to be REALLY hot!
(basically I am saying that it IS possible on 7U, so your problem isn't inherent in SP1, but I have no other constructive suggestions on what to try).
Re: VS 2008 SP1 installation troubles
Thanks, but I'm not quite sure what it means nor what could I possibly left out when installing W7U.
It's just a service pack for a product that's already instaled (without any troubles whatsoever, btw).
Although, framework is part of OS system itself should not interfere with fully compatible products - that's insane.
... may need to post this on MS board ...
Re: VS 2008 SP1 installation troubles
I also had an issue on win7 and the issue was with having a .net application open at the time of installation (Live Writer).
Re: VS 2008 SP1 installation troubles
Finally and after astounding 5.5 hours VS SP1 was installed...
However it wouldn't be possible without mounting iso image as a drive using PowerISO.
Installation would hang when ran from the dvd drive (the drive itself is just fine).
I've never before encounter any issues whatsoever with ms installers/updates/sp/etc so it's kind of odd...
Anyway, it's done so I was able to install SQL Server 2008 without any problem.
