Regarding Cmmpu.exe ..
See KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q218/6/08.asp
For Faster Booting...
Remove all Unwanted stuff in System.ini,Win.ini etc...
Remove Unwanted Programs in the Registry
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
etc...

thanks a lot active that was very useful

An easier, more descriptive (and safer) method to remove things from startup - go to Start->Run and type "msconfig" then press <Enter>. If you click on the rightmost tab you can select what is run at startup.
-
I have already done that, but thanks anyway :)

That's what I always do....but...
When I install windows, I always have something called 'hidserv' in my task list..... well, last time I installed windows, when unticked it from the start up list in msconfig, it never ran again.... but this time, I unticked it from the start up list, and it's still in my task list when I press ctrl-alt-del....
-
Bizarre... I always keep my tasklist as empty as possible, when I don't have any apps open the only things on there are explorer, systray, my firewall (since I'm on cable) mdm (I usually kill this if I'm gonna play a game) and an intellimouse thing.
I don't trust stuff that I don't recognise to run in my tasklist.

I hate MDM....It is the Reason for 75% of the time
the browser crashes.

Machine Debug Manager... kind of ironic that it causes crashes really

Any way i can get rid of it? It does make programs crash and hang alot.
