[One More Question] Buying book from Amazon
Hi,
I am currently studying in US, LA Area, and am in need to buy a book (textbook actually). My only, best, cheap hope is Amazon right now. But I have never bought anything online before, so I am little skeptical about the services and deliverability.
I am from India, and usually we are accustomed to buy stuff from vendors directly.
Have anyone bought anything from Amazon before? Shall I order my item(s) without second thought?
Thank you.
Re: Buying book from Amazon
I used to live in LA. If you're interested in a walk in bookstore you might want to visit Op Amp Technical Books which is in LA near Hollywood. Here's a link for it. OPAMP TECHNICAL BOOKS The street address is at the very bottom. I just used them as a walk in bookstore but they also ship books.
I've bought books from Amazon many times and have also bought books on ebay. If you buy stuff on ebay you should probably get a PayPal account if you don't have one. Amazon uses many different vendors and they usually have ratings so you can see what percentage of the customers have given them positive feedback. I've never had any problems buying stuff through Amazon.com.
Re: Buying book from Amazon
I use Amazon now and again, particularly for second hand books and i have never had any problems at all.
Whether i have bought direct from Amazon or from the Amazon market place i have always has a good experience, generally prompt delivery although sometime the second hand books i have bought through the market place have taken a day or 2 longer.
Re: Buying book from Amazon
If anyone, it's them you should trust. I generally buy about 30-50 items a year from them, including SLRs, books, videogames, tables (that's right), computer parts and so on.
The only time I don't buy from them is if some other online retailer is selling the same thing cheaper (like play.com, which is UK-specific)
Re: Buying book from Amazon
I've got the same view as mendhak... in the last 10 years or so virtually all of the books I've bought (and most CD's/DVD's, and some other things) have been from Amazon or Play.
I tend to avoid the 'marketplace' sellers, as it is harder to gauge how good they will be.
Re: Buying book from Amazon
I've been buying all of my textbooks for my college classes for the last couple of years, buying the books is really quick & easy, now selling these books through amazon when the semester's over... that's easy but you need patience cause it might be a while before someone else buys em off ya.

I have only ever bought second hand books from the market place but i have bought quite a few and never had any problems. As i said you might not get them delivered quite as quick as Amazon direct but all the sellers have been pretty good.

Re: Buying book from Amazon
I buy stuff from Amazon all the time, from books to big screen tv's. Never once had a problem and not once have I found a cheaper price - especially in book stores.
Re: Buying book from Amazon

Re: [One More Question] Buying book from Amazon
Hi,
Will it be advisable to buy clothes from Amazon? Basically I am looking for either a sweater or a fleece (with or without a hoodie), and probably a cap.
I checked at Amazon and found some good options. But am little skeptical for the size. Though, as per Amazon's merchant list, Medium will be perfect for me, but you know; sometimes an inch smaller can cause issues.
I am looking for something warmer, but cheap.
Any other places to look for in/around LA area (near downtown)?
Thanks.
Re: [One More Question] Buying book from Amazon
Buying clothes you might want to go with a walk in store. It's been more than 10 years since I lived in LA but maybe there's a Target, K-Mart, WalMart or Ross near you. Taking a one day bus excursion to the nearest one might be worth it. Ross is just clothes so it would have the best selection. Their motto is 'Dress For Less'. You wouldn't have to pay shipping fees though you'd have to transport yourself to and from the store.
This is from a search : You might want to make sure it's current info.

I have also bought a lot of stuff from them too, in fact I would recommend them to anyone, always so nicely packaged!
Re: [One More Question] Buying book from Amazon
L.L. Bean is a good place to by outerwear online or in one of their stores. BTW if you are worried about giving out your credit card number, some banks (in the US at least) will issue you temporary, single-use, numbers.
Re: [One More Question] Buying book from Amazon
I've been using amazon for lots of stuff...
amazon.co.jp
amazon.co.uk
I event bought a textbook from amazon.co.uk because the book was not sold locally and there is no asia amazon... :| even when I was still in the Philippines using my Phil credit card. quite convenient. Except that the import fees ballooned when the item finally got to me.
There's also ebay...
ebay.co.uk
ebay.com (shipped from US to the UK)
It's really quite reliable. I prefer online shopping than going to the shops.
