Most popular programming language
According to eWeek.com, PHP is the top programming language that the job market is after, and VB.Net is the last one in the list:
http://www.eweek.com/c/a/IT-Manageme...arn-Right-Now/
And langpop.com's research shows the most popular programming language belong to the C. PHP is the 4th after C, Java and C++. VB.Net is somewhere in the middle of the list...

Something to consider if you want to learn a new language...

3 - AJAX
4 - JavaScript
I roll my eyes in disbelief at the ignorance displayed in plain text for all to see. I send vibes of pity to authors of said article.

Re: Most popular programming language
I don't think the eWeek listing was a ranking... just a list...
And langpop... well... unless they starting hitting Dice, Monster, TechJobs, etc... it's hardly conclusive.

Re: Most popular programming language
Here is another one, and it's for August 2009... It lists VB.Net with a higher rank than C#...
http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/conte...pci/index.html
All in all, if I'm to learn a new language, PHP probably benifits me the most in the job market since its rank is consistently in the top 5.

Re: Most popular programming language
C seems to be ranked pretty high overall in those lists.
Good thing I'm learning some now.

Re: Most popular programming language
Well, C has been around... for what... 40+, 50+ years? So that's not all that surprising. I'm not wholy convinced any of those results are accurate though. They don't seem to jive with what I've seen as "needed" in the market...

Re: Most popular programming language
PHP is used on millions of sites, No wonder why it is way up there.

Market demand is most definitely not an indication of popularity. It is normally driven by hype and at the moment it is probably driven by the need to save money.

Re: Most popular programming language
The most popular language is the one you get paid to program in. All others are moot.

So what is the most popular programming language for a person if he/she is not a programmer currently but looking forward to becoming one? ;)

Re: Most popular programming language
Wait a minute, guys... Are we still talking about popular programming languages or have we changed the subject to programming technologies?
-
Re: Most popular programming language
I made my comment remembering all those people who would claim they know how to program in html as if html was really a programming language.
That was back in the early 90's though
-
Re: Most popular programming language
I wonder whether the dominance of C in those lists has to do with people saying C when they mean C++ or C#.
-
Re: Most popular programming language
well, in one, they lumped all flavors of C (incl C++/C# and others) into the same "C" category...

Re: Most popular programming language
And what is "(Visual) Basic"? Does the Visual have precedence over the basic? :ehh:
