Mixing PC100 w/ PC133 ?!

hey,

i am looking to buy PC133 memory since it's cheaper than PC100... my comp currently uses PC100.

does anybody know if i can mix these two?!

my configuration:
PIII 450 Mhz

3 SDRAM slots: 1=(128mb, PC100), 2=(64mb,PC100),3=EMPTY

No problem. But note: if you're using PC100 and PC133 at the same time, they'll all slow down to 100.

It maybe that your mainboard supports different RAM settings, but I don't think so...

I have a 450 pIII at work with a 128mb pc100 and 128mb pc133 BUT i found that start up time was slower due to the timings of the RAM being different and the PC would crash more often, i found it better to replace the 128mb pc133 with a 64mb pc100....runs much better.

read your instructions that came with your mother board

I wouldn't worry about frying the RAM, all the PC133 means is that it's rated to work at a higher frequency than PC100 RAM. You can run it at any frequency below its limit, and it should work fine. Notice I said should, you never can tell with computers nowadays.

Would I: Hell no. Because of the difference in speed and latency. Plus the fact that most people buy the cheapest RAM possible with poor latency and frequency gates. Which means the RAM has a tuff time running at rates different than what is was built for. If you had real nice RAM like Micron or Kingston who build high quality RAM then you might try it. But I bet you don't so I wouldn't, but the choice is yours.
