There are thousands of jobs left for VB6 programmers. Vb.Net still relies on several common VB6 coding routines, calls, and lacks some very nice VB6 controls. In many instances, it is needlessly complex for simple applications and never has been proven to run faster. Frankly, I think VB.Net is somewhat of a disappointment. :sick:
I am a 8+y C developer and just started a new job that uses VB 6 as the front end. Two interviews before, also did the same. Since the move to .NET has to much over head for complex software.
So Yes!!
.NET sucks so bad in my opinion. Everything about it. And VB6 apps (if coded correctly) always perform much faster and better and use a lot less resources and have less overhead.
With that said, there doesn't seem to be many jobs for VB6 developers in my area. A lot of it is C/C++ and Java. The few VB6 jobs are mostly for database front-ends.
I have to agree with DigiRev. All the jobs I have seen for VB6, have been just part of the job. The rest of the job usually is C/C++ for the back end.

After all it isn't always slower than VB6. But more important these days imho is what is it capable of doing "off the shelf" and you know it that VB6 will loose right from the start.

Also, I haven't seen in the past say 6-12 months any VB6 advertised job that din't require some .Net knowledge (at least one of the following was a must: asp.net, vb.net, c#).
Regardless of what language you currently know best it is always a good idea to learn something else.

If there's any new development, most shops (including the one I work in) look towards java or .NET for future development. A few things have gone the way of "SAAS" "Software as a Service".
