I bought a £10 cheap device off of eBay of which I used VLC media player to capture, nothing special, it was a pain in the arse to setup, poor video quality and no sound. So you might have to spend a few £££ to get something half decent.
Whatever you get, make sure it isn't from pinnacle.
Well I was looking for a more professional type. So a few 100$ is no problem. I wrote some software some time ago that uses avicap to analyse certain images. Now I'm upgrading that software and want to use a better resolution and image quality.
I have a crappy little Logitech cam that can pull a 320x240 stream at 15fps, give or take... I have no idea how old it is, though. The specs on some of Logitech's newer cams are pretty impressive, and not painfully expensive, either. Maybe you should check some of them out.
a video capture device can range from a webcam to a Sony HDR-FX1 3-CCD HDV High Definition Camcorder w/12x Optical Zoom
What exactly are you looking for?
Video capture as in something like SnagIt or a camcorder?
This is what I have got, I think this is what he is looking for?

If you are looking for an actual video capture program that you can modify for your own use here is the one I used a while ago for an internship.
