If you ask directly for the answers to the questions, not tips on how to get to the answers.
E.G. i have to code this programs its a program where you store it's these values into a database i can't give you more help since the source code is top secret.Can any1 help? thx

What is worse with these types is that they generally steal your answers and never give you any sort of prize. I label it mentally under the same heading as "Nigerian Fraud Con"

You can also look at a user's feedback. I know some of us don't have much, such as myself, but there are people with post counts in the hundreds that have no rep. That signals to me that they are always asking for help, and when they get their answer, they vanish again.
Another thing you can do is hang around in the chit-chat area. Most of the people I've seen post in here have a multitude of posts in other forums helping users.
I only post in the chit-chat area now.
I occasionally traverse the ASP.NET and C# forums to offer what help I can... but I'm often too amazed at the number of "plz to hlp" thread titles that I don't even want to open them. I think this board is gaining notoriety as a place to get easy answers for homework, and I don't think that's what it's really about...
Actually, I think that with the volume of activity this board sees, it comes up a lot at the top of searches so people stop here first. I'm guilty of it too.... I tend to go through the links on the first couple of pages.... the ones that float to the top get the clicks.Quote:

That's the point of a relevancy search... the more relevant results are easier to get to. The point is that there are enough people just blindly handing out code for this forum to be a big draw to people who don't give a rip what it does, as long as it works. I think I can pretty confidently say that all of us who have gained success professionally, in part because of assistance from VBF, gained it because we were taught what it did instead of just taking a block of code and plugging it in to an application. Our intern at work came on the job with nothing but a couple college classes and an interest in coding. Now he's cranking out some pretty slick stuff, all on his own. Why? He gets the fundamentals, then starts putting the pieces together for himself, and now he doesn't even need my help.
