[RESOLVED] "See Post" link (icon in quoted message)
As many of you may have noticed there is a little blue icon that appears when you quote somebody's message.
Guess what? If owner of quoted post deletes his/her post then link becomes broken but software doesn't have enough "intelligence" to alert you that original post is no longer there.
I think it's quite misleading especially when threads are quite lengthy - if interested see my test thread.
Re: "See Post" link (icon in quoted message)
That is because the original post is still there. The system uses a soft delete process.
Re: "See Post" link (icon in quoted message)
Yes, technically nothing is deleted immediately but some sort of "marked for deletion" flag must be set somewhere. Right?
As I recall in the previous version if you try to access post that is no longer available "system" would alert you so what's the difference?
Example of this could be when someone tried to reply to a post that was deleted by admin not long ago - you know you can keep current page open for awhile.
Re: "See Post" link (icon in quoted message)
Actually not, the post is not deleted, merely hidden from view.
Re: "See Post" link (icon in quoted message)
Not really, it just hidden from most people - it is still there (minimised) for moderators/admins to see if they want.
When logged in as a moderator, the link works fine for me - and it is something that we will find useful.
When logged in as a normal user (or not logged in at all), the link simply has no effect for me (in IE 7 and Fx 3.0.7).
It would be nice for it to show some kind of "deleted" message, but I suspect that is something that would need to be built in to vBulletin, rather than something that could be changed by us.
Re: "See Post" link (icon in quoted message)
I totally understand and agree with what you saying but also you are admins/mods so you can see a lot more than "general public" and ordinary users are who I am refering to may have "problem" with this feature.
Personally, I do. If vBulletin doesn't handle it then it's obviously a bug that needs to be reported (not sure if you guys do that).
Thanks anyway.
