TWAIN ActiveX that actually works?

I am in need of a TWAIN activex control that actually works with VB.NET 2008 Express and Windows Vista SP1.

I have tried Viscomsoft's Scanner ActiveX and it works ok in their demo app, but is very slow. I cannot make it work in my project at all. I have gone over the code 5 times and all of the dependencies are there.

I have heard Vintasoft's control is good, so I downloaded their demo and it doesn't even install any of the sample content into the sample folders.

I have budget of up to $80 to purchase one of these controls but cannot find one that works and it is getting very frustrating. This is for a business application for internal use. I cannot pay $220 for a single developer license for one of the higher end controls. I simply need to be able to take a picture for a web or scan a document from a scanner, display it in picturebox and save it as a .jpg or .tiff.

I have tried the WIA tutorial in the codebank here, but WIA hates windows Vista, and I cannot find ANY decent documentation on WPD (WIA's replacement).

Can anybody recommend a decent .ocx control that actually works with VB 2008 and Windows Vista? I need to get something working by the end of next week and this is all that is holding me up on the application. Thanks.
