I don't know if MS is aware of this but on WinXP SP2 and SP3, Office 2007's and VS 2005's 'Look in:' DropDown (in the Open/Save and in VS's Add File) dialogs causes the whole program to stop responding.
This is the drop down I'm referring to:

How could something like that slip their quality control check?
Maybe this problem is specific to your system. Something might be missing or corrupt.
That could be, but I highly doubt it since it doesn't work on two different XP systems (one with SP2 and the other with SP3) and a Vista (with SP1) comp, that's three different computers, all not working. Whereas on all of those systems Office2003 (both xp systems and the vista system) and VS 2003 and VS 2008 (on the XP systems) work fine, it's just VS 2005 and Office 2007 that's the problem
I'm running XP SP2, and can't find the problem. I opened VS2005 and went to Add Existing Item, which has the Look In dropdown, and had no problem. Nothing in Save, either, or when using Open to open a new project. Which version of VS2005 are you using?

Open (or create) a deployment project, in the FileSystem view right click the file pane and select 'Add File' now in the dialog (screen shot in first post) click on the drop down, wait a minute and you'll notice that VS stops responding.
I tried this on my XP and Vista systems and they all work just fine. It must be some sort of difference with your systems. Perhaps a third party application?
If no one else is experiencing this then perhaps it is something else installed on the comps, I'm not sure what it would be though the two XP comps have very little in common as far as installed programs and other 3rd party stuff.Quote:

That kind of behaviour can happen when you have a mapped drive or network connection (or even a removable drive) that cannot be connected to, or is running slowly.
And what if I don't have any mapped drives? My home comp does (XP SP3) and my work comp doesn't (XP SP2). It's my work comp that has the dropdown crashing VS problem the most.Quote:
