Oblivion Stuff
Instead of spamming the Fallout3 threads I thought I'd start a new thread for discussing Oblivion.
Last night I finished the Battlehorn Castle add-on content. I bought it months ago and had assumed that it's basically just another house with some nice touches (eg like Frostcrag). But no.
No, it is much more. But to realise this you have to buy everything from the merchant.
Have any of you lot got the Battlehorn add on? What did you think of it?
I reckon it's the best Oblivion add-on after Shivering Isles. My mate said he heard a rumour that Bethesda may be creating one or two new add ons to keep the Oblivion slaves (eg. me) happy until TES5 comes out in 2010. I personally doubt it but that would be awesome.

Re: Oblivion Stuff
I got battlehorn, I wasn't impressed to be honest. Sure when you bought everything it was different but some of the fan content for the pc is much deeper.
Some new weapons, armour and content would have been better than houses. For instance, I cant understand why the mannequin mod has never made it to oblivion as DLC. Bethesda should have a comp that picks the best of the pc dlc and convert for XBOX 360.
SI was the best mod for DLC that I have seen. I would have liked a new guild mod also. But at the end of the day beth are passing up a huge opportunity for more money by not using fan mods.

Re: Oblivion Stuff
I haven't heard of that mod for the PC, perhaps I need to go have another look. Knights of the Nine added the most content, but that one assasin dagger mod (whatever it was called) added an interesting fight, too.

Re: Oblivion Stuff
Yeah Beth really need to work on there boss fights, I don't care if they have to add a big health bar just make them challenging. The fact that I can clatter the king of worms over the head a few times with a sword and he will die was annoying, especially since I did it at lvl 5. Same for Umaril, undead Aurion king, pfft. Clattered him too.
And as for jygalag, the most feared of the daedric princes, the one they cursed for fear of his growing power..... Yup clattered on the head with a sword at lvl 5.
The boss fights where too easy, these guys should have been ungodly hard. As for lvl 5 this could have been avoided ala morrowind, you cannot advance in any guild without the necessary skill set. IE you cannot become arch mage with 20 int and 5 will.
I really don't know why they left that out, sure it would have meant you couldn't own every guild on one play through but that's a good thing.

Re: Oblivion Stuff
Dean, there is a "difficulty" slidebar in the game settings you know. :)
One of the things I really like about Oblivion is the books. Not the mundane boring ones like "manual of arms" (250 of which appear on every single bookshelf in the entire game), but the rare books that you have to go out of your way to get hold of.
Some of the stories, fables, proverbs make fantastic reading.
I don't think it would be much work for Bethesda to come out with a periodical DLC download that gives us maybe twenty new "unique" books every month or so.
Periodical DLC is already done in games like Forza 2 ("September Car Pack" for instance). A book is basically just a bunch of text, its not exactly a multimedia extravaganza, come on Bethesda, feed your fans. There is a whole load of fan-fiction (most of it admittedly extremely poor) that could be sifted through to find hundreds of books-worth of material.
The occasional new ingredient wouldn't hurt either.
This is all academic of course, the chance of them actually doing new DLC is more remote than a very remote thing.

Re: Oblivion Stuff
The difference is not really that dramatic with the slider on full. I would also like to see this as well as never ending quests ie daily or weekly retrieval quests.

Re: Oblivion Stuff
Having only recently got a 360, I was faced with the choice the other day of buying Fallout 3 or Oblivion. I bought Oblivion. Nuff said.

Re: Oblivion Stuff
Good choice. If you havent already, you should get all the expansion packs except "The Orrery" (which is a waste of money).

Re: Oblivion Stuff
Oh I'm planning on it, as soon as I complete the main story...unlike with my PS2, I'm going to stick to a policy of completing everything I buy :p
