All of the politicians(at least in public) and most of the citizens say Vote! I agree, you should vote. But, if it is so important, why isn't it held Saturday & Sunday? Or why isn't the day a Holiday?
I heard today the following:
It was established as Tuesday in the following manner:
In the old days, when many people would worship on a Sunday, then on Monday, they could pack up their wagon and have the day to travel to their local polling county. Once there, they could settle down for the night, and have all the next day to vote. Then they could rest up, and on the following day {Wednesday}, jump back into their Horse drawn wagon and travel back home.
Thats all that was mentioned, so I would presume that, if these folks had jobs off the farm, they would probably take thursday getting all washed up, head over to the nearest eatery, and hope for some news as to what the results were. Then they would have the rest of the night to engage in various revelries, then head back home. Then, on Friday, they would recover from the previous days festivities, and then have the weekend to adjust back to normal.
IMHO, if it was on a Saturday, then they would get friday to travel, saturday to vote, and Sunday to travel back, however, sunday worshippers wouldn't want to travel on Sunday {Nor would Saturday worshippers want to be voting on saturday instead of worshipping}, so then they would be traveling on Monday, waste Tuesday for the results, Recover on Wednesday, but then who would want to go back to work for just 2 days?
Voted this morning. Got to the place when they opened (7am) and didn't leave till almost 8am. The last two times I voted there was no line and I ran in and out. This time I had to wait and park across the street.
I take it this year is going to be another record turn out?
Too bad I couldn't vote for the people I wanted to vote for :(
the great thing about small towns, no lines. i voted at 9AM as was the 89th person to cast a ballot.
I don't vote.
Yes, and we're all grateful for that...Quote:
