problems with control names
hey all. heres a bit of a challenge: with access, i have 6 forms with about 100 controls(a mix of checkboxs, textbox, and group controls, and combo boxes as well as labels and each form varies in the number of controls) on each on. each control, that im concerned with, is named in this manner: Q000, Q001...Q100. there are other controls on the forms with other naming conventions but im not concerned with them. the problem i have is, if i need to add a new control to a form, i need rename every control (ie, if i need to add a new control called Q005, i will need to add 1 to every control name from Q005 to Q100 so the old Q005 will become Q006, old Q006 will become Q007 etc). another problem is this: like i said, there are other controls on the forms with generic names (like Label1234) whose names i dont want to change. any ideas?
challenge number two: is there a way to reasign all the old events to the new control name
Re: problems with control names
i am unclear if you are doing this in access or vb2008
generic vb code would be to loop through all controls
Code:
for each c in me.controls
if left(c.name, 1) = "Q" then
'code here to rename from 5
end if
next
if you only want to process labels you can use
if typename(c) = "Label" then
typof does not work with all ms office controls, but afaik typename does
to edit the events of each control you could try to export the module, then process it as a text file then import it back
or you can use
Code:
for i = 100 to 6 step -1
me.controls("Q" & format(i, "000"). name = "Q" & format(i, "000")
next
