:) :) Congratulation jmcilhinney!:) :) :thumb:
Now you are the TOP 1 in Reputation table with
RobDog888 is number 2,
si_the_geek is number 3.
I cannot undestand how these people can contribute that much to this community.
Congratulation all.

Congrats John. You really deserve it! :thumb:
Since the first couple of days reps were enabled (cant remember how many years ago lol) I have been first but I there are only a couple of members that couldnt be more deserving for this position. Well done John!
(Someone may need to PM him because he hardly ventures out of the .NET forums )
It takes years of helping others. I have recently retired from both the post count and rep race due to wanting to spend more time advancing my skills and starting to have a life again lolQuote:

Mr J Chimney should also get an award for "Services to MSDN popularity".
That's bull. We both know I've "contributed" far more posts in CC forum than you have anywhere else... :( ...Quote:

i'm not doing too bad myself, considering i've only been posting rated posts for 14 months. On page 2!
 I wouldn't argue with Rob. I seem to recall some time in the past where some of my posts "magically" changed while referring to him... :afrog:Quote:

Don't worry Rob. I'll abuse a few people for being lazy and you'll be No. 1 again when they rep me down. I'll be really happy when those little green squares get traded in for gold stars. Mmmm... gold stars.
I contribute because it's a buzz to help people learn. Unfortunately the number of people who seem to want to spend the time and effort to actually learn, as oppose to solve their immediate problem, is not as high as I would like to see it. Then again, I'm not as handsome or athletic as I'd like either. Can't have everything I suppose. :(
Naw, its ok John. Ive been having a blast having a life again :D
But I do echo your sentiments on how its fun "teaching" rather then posting out a bunch of code so they can simply copy/paste and call themselves a programmer.
I agree with you. On both counts ;)Quote:

I've got a form and a database. I went to put the data from the database onto my form, let the user edit it, and save it back to the database. Can you post how? It's urgent!Quote:

Then again, my eyes go cross whenever I see yet ANOTHER post about how to make a DataGridView do something truly bizarre and I quickly skip over it hoping for something a little more sane. :D
Grats John!
No, it's just a result of having 40 or 50 thousand posts....
See, both you (1,368 posts) and zaza (1,342 posts) have 200+ rep points :thumb: , while si_the_geek (19,580 posts) has 1500+ (< 2,000) rep points :thumb: :thumb: .Quote:

Come on! :p Try harder! Spend more time (16 hours a day is OK :bigyello: ) to help people, within a year (or earlier) you may have 10,000+ points. However, provided that you are "smart enough" in your areas.
I think it's more the ratio of rep points to posts that matter ;)
I'm ranked #7 in rep points - but I have the least posts by far (compared to those above me) to have arrived at my rep level - making my posts have more rep impact :eek2:
Yeah! You should be on the TOP. :bigyello:Quote:

Except for penagate, who has fewer than 100 posts more and has a rep over 1500. ;) Respect to both of you for that. :thumb: In future I'm gonna just give code on the first post instead of trying to prod people into thinking for themselves. That way I'll get more rep in fewer posts. I'm not saying that that's what you've done, but it sure would make me seem more cuddly.Quote:

I think JM is actually down under, but he doesn't have his location displayed anymore (other than being under a rock).Quote:

The way I see it reps are just a very simplistic (and fairly inaccurate) guide to who is helpful - while I'm currently near the top of the list I don't see myself as being "more helpful" than the people who are a bit further down the list (particularly those just a few places lower, as the points difference is much smaller than to the people above me!).
I'm aware of several people in this thread who make regular good contributions, and do try to "spread the love" when I spot apt posts (in some cases that is rare, due to the forums I focus on) and I remember to do so.
Points are nice, but it's the helping that really counts.
We should reset everyone's reputation and post count to zero; then add the ratio to the members. Easy :D
I read two consecutive good posts from one person and can't rep twice at the same time and have to rep 7 (or so) others just to rep that person again which can become quite a chore since I don't crawl forums much.
Think of all the lost rep points this way and I think some people would be higher up than where they are now. :D
But then again it's not the points that matter but the help contributed!
It was me, wasn't it? :)
i've had that same problem. When the same people over and over give the good posts and you go to rate them and it won't let you... :(Quote:

Heh, I love reading jmc's posts. They are equal parts informative and (slightly) manic rants against lazy new coders.
