Random irrelevant curiosity.
Hello,
New here. Usually I wait until I'm ripping my hair out in frustration to post on a forum. But I figured instead of hastily typing out a dumb technical question, I would rather start out by asking a completely inconsequential question about something else.
Apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find it through search. How many of you use more than one computer at home. I have a pretty decent computer that I use for movies, games, and Incognito mode but I would like to get a second one. Specifically, a laptop to use for school, programming, work, etc(Incognito mode)...
The problem I'm having is that there is this lady who hangs around my house all day telling me I can't spend to much money on things that make me happy. She refuses to believe that I need a separate computer for work and play (Despite the fact that a laptop is portable and convenient and this lady has expressed interest in surfing the tubes outside on the porch). Anybody else think having separate computers is unreasonable?

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
I read your thread on my work PC and am replying to it on my chat laptop; now I'll press submit... on my gaming box. :afrog:
In other words, no.

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
Asking a question in Chit-Chat is asking for inane ramblings. You should either attach a SERIOUS tag to it, or post in General Developer or PC Hardware. The question is reaonable in either.
I am working on my work laptop at home. Later I will post from my home gaming/general system, or perhaps my secondary gaming/robot brain system, though certainly not from my tertiary database/robot brain system (since it is upstairs, slow, and off). Soon enough, I intend to update the primary gaming system and add a second exercise/gaming/robot brain system that will be set up so that I can use it while on the treadmill. I currently use my laptop on the treadmill (I built a platform with keyboard and mouse trays, but have yet to buy a computer for exclusive use on the platform) to exercode for about four hours (and 11 miles) every morning.
Thus, I have four operating computers, use two of them routinely, use one occasionally, use the fourth one only rarely, and am intending to get a fifth this fall/winter.
Two computers? Heck, that's barely a start. What you need to do is get that lady hooked on something. Perhaps she'd get into FreeCell. Maybe Facebook (there are fans of all ages, though I'm not one of them) or even some strange forum (like this one or Grammar Lady). If neither of those work, then try her on heroin. Whatever it takes to get her hooked so that you can justify the need for another computer.

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
I was half looking for rambling answers and completely expecting the biased ones I'm getting. So the question was not entirely a very serious one. Thus, I figured Chit-chat was suitable.
Anyway, to clarify. She has her own computer already. I also have a second desktop that I'm currently using for school and would be replacing with the laptop. So I would technically have 4 computers until I get rid of the old crappy desktop. That doesn't count the 2 laptops that the company we work for issued us. I don't really count those though. They are old Dells and due to administration privileges, forbid installing anything. I think 6 computers may be what she's having the problem with.
I just want a non crappy laptop that I can have free reign over and not have to worry about who in the IT dept. is looking at it.

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
Well.. to clarify. She has her own PC and I have two desktops of my own. So we would technically have 4 personal computers. That doesn't count the 2 laptops that the company we work for issued us. I don't think those count though because they are locked and I can't install anything but portable apps on them. So the 6 computers may be what she's having trouble with. I just can't see far enough past the shiny new toy to get her point.
Also, I was half expecting rambling and fully hoping for biased points of view. So my question was not entirely a serious one.

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
Who is this lady and is she hot?
Oh, and I have a development box, gaming box, web server, DB server, two laptops and I still have my old P-133 from college.

You should pay more attention, as this means she wants you to spend money on things that make HER happy. You can justify the cost of an additional laptop by telling her she can use it to browse for clothes/shoes/makeup during a power failure (I can provide instructions...)
Beware, crptcblade doesn't cast a shadow...

I use one computer at work, another for the vast majority of everything at home.. my laptop is sitting unpowered next to me, waiting for CentOS... there's a piece of crap computer in my closet, and another one I'm using as a nightstand...
Does that answer your question?

I've tried that. She just keeps using logic to combat my technolust. Keeps saying something about how we don't need another computer. Of course not! We didn't need the lcd tv the 2 new PC's or the 2 blackberry's either, but we ended up with those.. and a 360 and a Wii... I swear it's not an addiction. I can quit any time I want!

I have a PC at home which I own.
I have a PC at work which I don't.
That's it. After reading this thread I suddenly feel poor.

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
I have a PC at home that barely works
I have a laptop at home that doesn't work
I have a PC at work that works quite well, but they yelled at me the last time I tried to take it home.

Yes, but then I would have to wait until the end of winter, when the chubby domesticated ones are on clearance.

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
Timeshifter has turned into an Internet version of Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged; he will now proceed to visit every forum in every dark corner of the Web and ask everyone to get off. Which can be taken in two ways.
-
Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
But I shan't visit every forum on the internet... only this one. The rest are boring.

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
Can it be? Am I the only one who has print-screened this for posterity?

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
It seems. We use the quote button so incase he edits it, We have the true copy.
Print-screening a post is useful for moderator posts...

Hey, what do you mean by clearance?!! Women are never on sale, they are the main drivers of capitalism, hence they buy buy buy!!!
You just need to upgrade your selling point. Get a marketing manager to do that.
I just got startled by the sound of the add on the top right... wahhhh

You couldn't be more correct. ;) My mother's birthday is on Saturday and my sister on Sunday. TWO presents to buy. :afrog:

Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
This wouldn't have been so much of a problem for you if they were the same woman.
-
Re: Random irrelevant curiosity.
No problem at all, because if that's the kind of house you're living in, you've got much bigger problems.
