What is the best HTML editor???

Hi there,

What is the best Web Page (HTML) Editor : - Webexpress, Frontpage or Dreamweaver etc. :)

I like Visual Interdev the best, but most people really like frontpage.

Well apprately Frontpage puts a lot of java in its hml coding, which is not relevant. That is why some old browsers and netscape dont view webspages created in it very well. Does not follow the national standard???

Here's a quick list of my preferences, based on what I've used, in order of best to worst:

when its time to do dynamic sities with databases etc or when there is a problem, noting beats it!

Definitely...at least then you can read the HTML that's been generated ;)

And in today's world of ASP, PHP, and JSP, you end up having to go to the code anyway, so you might as well start there :)

As far as I am conserned. I like them in this order

1. Dreamweaver (Awesome, especialy with CourseBuilder!)
2. Visual Interdev
3. CuteHTML
4. Notepad
5. Frontpage
6. Word as HTML (Terrible)

Well I realy like Dreamweaver 4 (Flash Text and Buttons), but my college only has Dreamweaver 3.0. So will have to use that there :(

I prefer Notepad all the way. I've tried using frontpage98 at school, and I just ruined my page. I like notepad for almost everything I do. It's in my quicklaunch bar, and in the sendto menu. I think it's the best part of Windows:D

I also prefer to write the code in HTML. Arachnophilia is a good prog that I use for this.

I would never use Frontpage to make a homepage. Never. Progs like that sucks :)

I think color-coding text editors are better than Notepad - it's easier to read and find mistakes. I really like Homesite - color codes everthing, a bit of Intellisense, can automatically close tags, previews through web server, includes a decent css editor, and you can right click a HTML tag to see its attributes and what browsers support them.

And BBEdit - a Mac equivilent to Notepad, has really awesome find and replace features.

I like interdev the best. I hate WYSIWYG editors. I also use notepad.

I have to agree with most above. I use NotePad for HTML and ASP pages.

Actually i have been using word pad since you can't ctrl-s in notpad!!!

it also will display line breaks chr(10) without the 13 properly

I use dreamweaver to make the page and then load it in CuteHTML or Notepad. (Notepad doesn't show line numbers!)

I use NoteTab Light. It's very handy, you should check it out. It's like Notepad but a lot better.

I' have never used allaire but plan to download a shareware version to see if its all its cooked up to be.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a trial on Homesite on the Dreamweaver CD already. As I've said before, I really like Homesite.
