Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
too bad i don't use RoadRunner.
I use Insight Communications and today, i just upgraded to 20.0 mbps.
Turns out that the 20.0 is not capped...

:D :bigyello: :D
This is a consistent speed and i have verified it on various sites, including bittorrent downloading, and microsoft.com (i downloaded a 350mb file in about 4 minutes)
In summary, DSL blows. Cable is the future...

Cable (at least Time-Warner and Comcast) won't let you connect a web server without shelling out serious $$$. Of course they don't dare to tell you this until you have already signed up...
DSL works fine for me, thank you - I shudder to think what you're shelling out for 20 mbps.
And don't forget all the fun we've had with bashing Comcast...

The 10.0 i had was $30 a month. Interestingly it had the same upload speed. I have to be really careful with torrents or i will max the upload out.

Singapore... You are not allowed to pee in elevators there...

Re: Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
Now all of you (except for kregg) I think live in the States. What about places like Australia? I recall reading somewhere about them selling 20Mbps cable for around $60 (AUD) p/m?

eventually they will install commodes in them for those extra-long commutes. They will work like those on a city bus though. Just a hole straight down.

Re: Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
wow, that's a lot of zeros. The download speed is a huge source of envy, but goodness look at the upload speed! That would make a nice server bandwidth i am sure. I just tested mine again (just to see if it was a fluke) and got even higher numbers. it's advertised as 20.0 and i pulled over 30 this time.

Re: Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
ISPs should be shot for having such crappy upload speeds unless you shell out $10,000 a year.

Re: Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
There's an update to this story: I downloaded a couple of torrents. For example i own Final Fantasy 8 and Neverwinter Nights 2 and both games were unplayable due to accidental damage to the disk. I torrent-downloaded replacement disks. Well, here's the result:

Re: Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
So you pay for a service, with the caveat that you can't use it.
Yup — sounds like an ISP!

Re: Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
well, the 20.0 isn't capped. obviously i could be stealing others bandwidth. However, i would say large files downloading probably isn't a problem. It's the over and over that would be a problem. I downloaded about 20 gigs worth of stuff since i opened this thread.

you used the wrong font for the distance. Be more careful next time you fake a result.

Re: Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
It was supposed to look like it was faked. I don't want anyone going "OMG kregg actually got over nine thousand lolol" on MSN to me, or about me in this thread.

Lord you said that cable is the future. What about fiber optics.
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/in...c,61174.0.html
Fiber optics isn't too popular in the USA now but perhaps in the future.

Re: Road-runner high-speed sucks? Post your internet speed here
I've just changed my ISP because according to them the 700Kbps I was getting on average was a more than adequate speed for my 8Mb service.
