This may not be a VB question per se:....but in the good old days, we could write Terminate but Stay Resident code that would execute in the autoexec.bat file. So, when the user (for instance) hit a <Control E> key the tsr would execute based on that keyboard interrupt. Is there any equivalent in XP that would allow me to execute a VB program based on a special or function key irrespective of where the "focus" is? Thanks for any advice.

Nothing has changed and you can still use batch files. Just place the command you wish to execute inside it. Next you need to create a shortcut pointing to the bat file. Finally assign a key to this shortcut using the properties of the shortcut.

if you create a shortcut for the program in question, all you have to do is right click on the shortcut and look at the properties. You can assign a hotkey to any shortcut you've created, and it doesn't matter where it is on the drive.
