Books and articles on leadership and management in Software projjects?
I was recently interviewed for a promotion, but was informed that I didn't get the Developer position because I wasn't able to demonstrate that I had sufficient leadership or management skills for the role.
Can anyone here recommend any good books or articles about leadership and/or management in Software teams? I don't think it can replace actual experience, but it might help the next time round.

I dont think it matters what industry your in. leadership and management skills tend to be an attitude to a given role rather than the role itself. Im not a fan of self help books as i find you can use your reading time more constructivly and lets face it for the volumes of these books sold the general populus hasnt got any smarter from them.
I would suggest the likes of code complete 2 though. In an industry where your main goal is problem solving, knowing how to solve the problem from a few different angles tends to give you a leadership edge as you can guide other people. Joel on software is another good book.
There is one self help book ive read that i found can make you more "professional" as it where. This is the rules of work by templar publications. There is nothing self help about it really. Just an honest guide on how to achieve better results through hard work and common sense, no dodgy karma or breathing exercises.
