File Association

I've tried to search google, for file association in vb, but i always get errors...
Somethimes i get error like, can't edit hkey_class_root or something...

So can anyone explain how to make my own file extension?

As to the error.. what kind of user are you logged in to Windows as (eg: admin/power user/limited user)?
What code are you using, and where does the error occur?

I get error no acess to registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.extname.
But i think it is cause i have vista, so does anyone know how to get this working in vista, and yes, i'm administrator...

It would also help to know exactly what the error is (as that tells us what the problem is).

That it isn't allowed to acess my registry.
But i can't directly translate it cause i have norwegian language...
