Few minor problems with Windows Vista
I've got a few problems with My Vista. If anybody knows any solutions, please help.
1. Copying files are slower compared to XP, (like from HDD, pen drive, etc)
Eg. When I copy 20GB, it takes about 10 minutes or so, but Vista the time keeps changing from 50 minutes, to a few hours. (PC left idle)
Even for just one 5MB file, it takes a few seconds before copying starts
2. Whenever I click on a Video file, (this launches Classic Media player) and Windows automatically turns off AERO. (not sure if that is what it is called, but the see-thru title bars change to solid color) But everything is fine if i just click the icon on the desktop, then drag n drop the video file.
3. When I switch to Full Screen in Windows Media Player, I have no controls, each time I set it in 'options', the check disappears immediately after I click OK. This is annoying since last time i checked there is no new Media Player and the WMP11 i use in XP, is out of date according to Vista. Also the brightness, contrast, hue sliders don't work.
4. Picture and Fax viewer. In XP when you use the CTRL+arrow keys u can navigate the image once it i zoomed in. But in Vista you have to use the mouse, any way of changing it?
5. When I plug in any USB storage device, My Windows Media Player switches to 'Library' from 'Now Playing'. This occurs in my XP too, and all the PCs I have tried it on.
6. In explorer, 'details view', when you rename a file, it automatically rearranges the file position according to the name. Really annoying since the next file I was about to rename has changed position
7. In explorer, in any view, if you have many files, it is difficult to unselect a file. There is no blank space to click on.
Re: Few minor problems with Windows Vista
... Ok il take a stab at this:
1: This isnt a localised case most people suffer from this but consider the following quote
Quote:
The file copy was a backward step.
And in some ways a forward step also. Previously in XP they had the same file copy method as older versions of windows. Quite often I have to copy huge numbers of files around, sometimes in the 10,000's, multigigabyte copying from HD to HD, and if XP had a problem copying just the one file it used to stop the entire transfer process. Vista will now report an error copying a file or folder but then continue with the next file or folder, a vast improvement. The actual file name being copied was rarely important since they flashed by faster than could be read with small files, the stopping right in t he middle of a huge copy was maddening!
2: Depending on your PC vista will turn on and off aero to improve memory usage, im not sure why your having the problem you are but usually if an app is memory intensive vista will turn aero off.
3:Reinstall
4:Dunno, never used it
5:See 3 although it could be a settings issue
6: This is based on your file prefrences, right click to change sort order, this is the same on my XP machine.
7: on the toolbar you should see a button to increase the distance and size of your icons its called "views" and has a slider.
Hope that helps a bit.
Re: Few minor problems with Windows Vista
The file copying has been improved in Vista service pack 1, which was released recently... I'm not sure about the other issues, but they may be corrected by it too.

But only happens to this program and only when I click the files. If i launc the program myself then drag n drop, its fine.
How? U mean reinstall Vista? The WMP is the one that came with Vista, I downloaded WMP from microsoft recently but that version cannot be used for vista.

I know about the sort order. But It automatically rearranges the file position as soon as you finish renaming that file. In XP once you finish renaming the file, the sorting takes place only after you refresh or hit F5.

2. not sure if this is your issue, but aero is shut off when a window is maximized.
7. I believe you can ctrl-click to unselect.

For 1, 2 and 5 see below. (6 and 7 has been answered by codedfire)
1) I agree with what Si says. check this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932170/en-us out for the upgrade. There is a link under RESOLUTION in the above link which will help you out.
2) If you are running the Power saver plan, Windows sometimes turns off transparency automatically. If you don't want this to happen, you can switch to the Balanced power plan.
To change an existing power plan
a) Open Power Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Power Options.
b) On the Select a power plan page, click Balanced.
5)
a)Click the arrow below the Library tab, and then click Add to Library
b)In the Add to Library dialog box, Click on Advanced options
c) Remove the USB link and click on ok
Let me see if I get answers for the rest...
