[RESOLVED] how did the first compiler for the first programming language get built ?

How did the first compiler get compiled if there were no other compilers about?

I have no idea what compiler was first but this isn't a chicken or the egg thing. The very first applications were basically written directly as machine language so they didn't need a compiler. After that, compilers were written to translate other languages into machine language.
