my question is, how can i do this if the files i wanted to view is located on another computer? is this possible?

I daresay it is but it seems a thorougly illogical thing to need to do. Wouldn't you just browse on the remote computer instead of going through another?
i dont know if im right here but correct me if im wrong.
because the computer where the files are on it, cant be accessed by some users. files are on .doc, .xls, .pdf extensions and we want it to be uneditable since the users who would open the files will only read it.
I still don't really see where you need PHP here.
Can you explain a bit more? Is this computer only accessible via a web interface?
