am I reading it wrong?

I was reading this article (I don't know why exactly) about Helen Keller (deadblind girl who was taught to communicate)

Anyways, this one paragraph:

She was born in 1880 so the age 7 seems to fit....

Maybe its a type-o as it could be a "1"? If she was 11 then why didnt she know how to read/write/speak still? :lol:

yeah they seem to be not so good with the proof reading over there.. or fact checking, but what news organization is?

HEllen KEller went deaf/blind at age 7, if I remember right.... Sullivan came to teach when Keller was 11.... someone at CNN didn't take a proper English class.
