Another rep question...but different

I realize that the mods have the ability to look at who has given what rep to whom, but do the mods have any metric that allows them to see the rate of repping?

I often give reps for threads that I am not directly involved in if I think the answer was a good one. However, I rarely get a rep from somebody who is not actively participating in a thread. Therefore, I think my behavior is somewhat anomalous, but there is no good way to know.

In fact, even if the answer to the question was Yes, I actually am not quite sure what a different rate of repping would mean. Reps/posts might be of interest, as might reps/threads started, but neither would be all that interesting.

If I understand you correctly it would be reps per posts per thread and there's no way to calculate that without manually running a SQL query.

And to add to PGs post, only Admins have the permissions to run a SQL query against the database.

I sometimes get a rep from someone that wasnt a participant of the thread as its probably from a Forums search result that the member found helpfl for what they were looking for. I give to threads that help me if I find something usefull/above average.

I think it might be interesting to see a Rep total per thread value similar to a Rating of a thread but that would of course require a Hack which we all know is very difficult to warrent the pain of dealing with during a upgrade.

I have to agree, custom programming is extremely difficult to deal with especially when you want any sort of information that isn't part of the "default".

Perhaps we should mend Hack?

I find reps one of the most interesting pieces of the forum from a social perspective. The pattern is chaotic and unpredictable, and I suspect that the reasoning behind reps is pretty unusual. If I participate in two sections that are frequented by the same population, I have noticed that one segment of that population is more likely to give reps in one area than they are in another. Quite odd, really.

Are you trying to emulate a small scale version of Seldon's "psychohistory"? :D

But how do you know that one segment is repping another area? Or do you mean that it's more about the atmosphere that's set up in each forum?

Actually, I don't find that odd at all. In fact, it is very "life" like.

And that is exactly why the site admins are not keen on adding a whole lot of customization. All of it has to be redone with each forum software upgrade.

and dont forget that we only get a small slice of their time as JM has 30+ vBulletin Forum sites to manage.
