Mine sucked ! I’m never going to work early again; ever! As part of my shift pattern I’m required to work one weekend day; usually Sunday. Every weekend I arrive an hour early and, with the exception of the security guard, I’m the first one to arrive. As part of my early-morning routine I go to the canteen and get a cup of coffee and something to eat, I then sit and read until my shift begins.
Today I carried out this routine as normal, however, I was sat reading the company magazine with my coffee when all of a sudden the radio went silent, the television turned itself off and all the vending machines lost power. I rushed onto the landing and found that all of the doors had been automatically locked, the elevator was disabled and I was being deafened by the alarms. I ran down to the ground floor to discover the security guard was stood outside having a cigarette. I attempted to leave the building through the main door which was electronically operated but I was unable to get out, basically, I was trapped inside an electronically operated building with no way to get out and all fire exits were located in rooms that were electronically locked.
The security guard contacted one of the site supervisors who arrived to see me locked inside the call centre. He attempted to unlock the door with a key that is supposed to unlock the door manually, this failed so he asked me to break the emergency glass panel that opens all the electronic doors in the case of an emergency, well guess what, that failed too. The security guards decided to leave and after 20 minutes they returned with a screwdriver and after 15 minutes they managed to jimmy-open the electronic door with a big-ass screwdriver.
While I was stuck inside the call centre, I thought to myself, if this building was on fire I’d be probably be dead by now, I also had to put up with the Team Managers and other agents arriving for work and seeing me locked inside the call centre, obviously, they found it amusing whereas I did not.
