I've received several disapprove ratings. Now normally I don't care but several people (mostly new people) told me they wanted to give me an approval in the rating but for some reason did not.
Is the UI for giving someone a rating confusing? Would it help if we did something like color the approve line as green and the disapprove as red or something else negative?
I don't know why people make that mistake but some do. In most cases it's new people and fortunately there "negative" doesn't count unless they have 20 posts or more. PM me and we'll talk more about this.
Are you sure its not a "gray" rep your seeing?
I remember thinking about this when i stumbled upon this thread. Since that guy has only got 5 posts, rep points that he give should have no effect and show as a gray gem in the user CP. You shouldnt be able to see if its positive/negative...atleast thats what I've always thought.

The thing that I find some what surprising is that the UI defaults to approval.
The disapproval has to be physically selected in order for a negative rating to be posted. All they have to do, really, is nothing but click OK and the rating will be positive.

I guess this is thoroughly resolved, but it did get me thinking....a little. Being artistically challenged, and writing for high light/poor visibility situations where the screen image tends to get washed out by direct sun, I tended to use high contrast colors. Then I got to listen to my boss (who was Red-Green color blind) discussing the interface with an employee of mine who was totally color blind. It was an amusing conversation, as they both thought the button colors were grouped in different ways, and neither one was right.
I wonder if either type of person (who has to be male, so somewhat more heavily represented on this forum than in the general population) has any difficulty seeing the colors of the reps? My employee was very good at telling red from green, despite not being able to see either one quite the way the majority sees them. I was never able to tell what he would be able to distinguish and what he wouldn't. He thought of colors, and had to learn that what he was seeing was not what others were seeing, but whether it was shading or hue or what, I never could figure out.
That's a good design point actually. User interfaces shouldn't rely on colours alone. Might be something to bring up with the vBulletin developers.
