Basic Q regarding obtaining data from a text doc

Hello, can someone tell me how to obtain 1 line of text, and how to outut 1 line of text, to & from a text document which would be in the same directory as the VB program. Thanks very much, if I come up with the answer before someone responds to this I'll post it for reference
