Despite enormous pressure from one peer, I have successfully resisted the non-existent temptation to use either MySpace or Facebook. :)
The same goes for bebo i just dont like the idea of them they are like personal ads for introverts
I did use farcebook - but I soon grew out of it...
I have a facebook account. I only log on to it though when I have found someone new to stalk.
i tried it and didn't see anything new to it that myspace didn't already offer. Annoyingly one of my best friends who doesn't live nearby has dumped myspace in favor of facebook.
I got one just for poker
And now for a comic

Email is so much nicer.
I used facebook back when it was college exclusive. At that point, it was nothing but bio fields, pictures, and groups. Much cleaner, and it did its' job well. I haven't used it since I was kicked out for not doing any work...
Never tried it. Never will.

Now you know.
Correct, that's why I use it. If someone takes more than 1 day to accept my friend request, I send notes threatening to kill myself if they don't. That strategy hasn't failed me yet.Quote:

Will you be my friend?
Try poking me first. :afrog:
Edit: Also try buzzing, nudging, grinding, bumping, slamming, smiting and desecrating me, to use the latest parlances...

I stalk people in real life. Greek's are my favourite.Quote:

Facebook will go out of business as all the negative feedback from the tracking and auditing it does on its members. Privacy issues always will kill a site/app.
And yet gmail continues to thrive. Hmm...
Wasn't there something about Microsoft buying a small percentage of Facebook in the news the other day?
*ponders*
That was like a month ago or so. it was something like 10% I think but cost them a butt load of money.
Might explain why it's... ... ... less than perfect.
Actually it explains why its gotten so much more notice and why the creator is being hammered on improving the revenue generating business model for it. The creator was just on 60 minutes last night and he made the site seem like its not making any money and that users are displeased with it because of its tracking stuff and advertising gimmics
Well I frequented Facebook some time ago, but now, I don't go on there at all, except when I have a new friend request or message.
*Watches as everyone secretly signs into facebook*
facebook used to be the clean and simple version of myspace.
...but then came 3rd party apps.
And it's usually 3'rd party junk that breaks a system.
Look at ANY other application out there in a "standard" configuration. Then compare it to itself loaded with a gazillion 3'rd party plug-ins.
I wrote a facebook clone system just now on my private server. It's fantastic. In fact it's so good I'm not going to let anyone else at all use it.
Now if you'll excuse me I have to go see if I've got any new friends.
Facebook is another one of those temporary hypes. It will go out of business, but not because of privacy issues. Individuals are willing to sacrifice privacy in return for an incentive.
When the novelty wears off people soon start taking notice of the privacy / ethical issues. Let's face it, not many businesses are ethical ;)
Yes, I can't wait for the media hype. To tell us the most obvious things in the world and coat it in a turd diluted mixture of disbelief.
"The Internet is WEIRD!"
"You can buy things on the Internet."
"Oh my gosh, google searches images now! Let's all pucker up for a mighty celestial smooch."
I truly love the news stories and public service announcements about sites like myspace and facebook:
WARNING! Anything you post on your profile, people can see! Don't post stuff you don't want people to see! Don't post your address on your profile! Don't post that picture of you smoking weed on your profile!
Myspace is the work of the devil because it can be used by predators to search for rape victims who post crap without thinking!
Oh and you dont think that can happen on facebook or any other site, including VBF? :D
Careful what you say rob... you don't know what AR's secret hobby is...
you mean its stalking? BOOM!
The media is comprised of vultures looking for the next big thing to scare us with. I am sure that at one point in time, there was a big slander against forums and newsgroups, but I don't remember. Today's target is myspace. Tomorrow's target will be...?
