I navigate to C:\Document and Settings\Paul\My Documents\Downloads and all of are sudden i get this Data Execution Prevention message (I will get a screen shot now) and then everything goes away (except wallpaper) and 2 seconds later my desktop comes up as if i just logged in but with all the stuff i had in tray still active.
At first i received some reference error but now just this....

Apparently from the information i have this is a good thing (DEP) but i don't see how any of the files i have downloaded could cause a problem :( one music file and the other was an image from a friend.
Wierd. You could try opening a DOS window and changing the files extensions to something like .xxxxxx. If there's a "Desktop.ini" file in there, do the same until everything's sorted.
Won't do anything :( I made it display all hidden files and folders and there is certainly no ini files in it :(
Oh and sorry what exactly is the command to change the extension?
To change the extension, just right click on the file and click Rename.
Hmm never mind renaming then i removed a folder in there that contained a video i downloaded and uh that seems to be the cause. So i copied the folder to desktop and the downloads folder with the music in it is ay okay now :D
Though this folder containing the video seems to be still having the same problem. And all it is, is a avi file.
Is it happening with all .avi files, or just this one?
Just this one. It was via torrents.
Scan it for viruses as soon as possible then.
Video files can contain info that starts IE when run in WMP. I don't know if someones found a way to start a process if, say, the folder's view is set to Thumbnails - forcing explorer to parse the file for the first frame. If it was me, I'd play safe and delete it.
Done a that immediately and a full system scan, totally nothing.Quote:
