Is there some way to tell if my dvd drive is a dual layer burner? I thought it said it was when I bought it, but I don't remember. On the side it says DVD multirecorder/DVD+rewritable. It's an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530a.

Here's the laptop specs: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...08808sp2.shtml
According to the drive bay options it must be a dual layer writer. I guess I was just expecting the drive model to end with "DL".
It would have been nice if it did. Nothing in the manual says what media capicity it can handle?
I don't have any of my papers with me and the gateway system profile doesn't show anything either. Does Nero or some dvd burning software provide a device info tool that would tell me if it's DL?
Not sure. Did you try burniung a dual layer disc to see if it can write beyond 4.7 GBs?
In nero 7 Ultra Ed. there is an option called 'Get System Info' under the Extras, it will tell you what are the supported read and write features of your drive.Quote:
