British International football teams...

How is it that every football team in the British Isles are god awful?
Yet in many other sports they are up there amongst the best?

A good example (as much as it galls a Welshman) are the England rugby team. Not expected to get past the Quarter-Finals (and at one point looking suspect about even getting there!) and here they are in the Final! Fair credit to them they have worked very hard and bonded as a true team and they deserve to be there. Why is it that the football teams cannot do the same??

My opinion is that the football players of today simply get paid too much, and pulling on their respective country's shirts simply doesn't mean as much as it used to.

Would it not have been easier, instead of complimenting the English Rugby team, to simply poke fun at the French team for losing to them? That way we can all join in.

Perhaps they work more as individuals than they do as a team...?

Hmm, would certainly explain why a team of some of the best players in the world just can't win games. Lot of big ego's in that team too

That may be one problem. The England team always seem content to go 1 goal ahead and protect it. Why not keep going and get 3 or 4!?!

When is the rugby game going to be played? Saturday at... 8PM?

Nope, that's American Football in Britain... and unfortunately I wont be there, as tickets sold out far too quickly. :(

Instead I will be watching on TV, unless they have realised how popular it is and make it pay per view. :mad:

Unfortunately I fear you may be over-estimating their abilities... the players are all good, but somehow have trouble playing together to their maximum in international matches.

should be an interesting matchup since the giants are 5-2 (5 wins in the last 5 weeks) and the Dolphins are horrible this year at 0-7

Well that could be an easy game then.. but as there is no "home" crowd as such (and depending on when they fly, the players may well be jet-lagged), it could have a strange effect on either of the teams.

my guess is they have accounted for most of that. I am sure they are heading over there early in the week so they can get practice in and recover from any jetlag. They also both have their bye weeks after the london game to give some extra recovery time.

Did any one see the article from Goodall that a superbown in London could be in the works? England need to put their own team together. They shouldn't have any trouble recruiting players.

I predict Miami kicks the bejezzus out of the Giants in london.

they act like there is all this interest because tickets sell fast and the games have huge crowds, but what they arent accounting for is the "one shot" factor of it. Lots more people are inclined to go to such an event when its a one time thing.... start having games there every week, and it will be old news quick..

Londoners didn't buy up the tickets to watch football, they did it because they love to queue up. Anything that could be a potential opportunity for long queues, and they'll be there "in a jiffy", to use a parlance.

Anyway, anyone see the Rugby Cup Final? I have to say, I agree with the ref and all journalists that it wasn't a try, although Cueto is being a bid childish by digging his head in the sand and saying it was a try. :rolleyes:
