VBForums: Mafia [Ended]

We are going to play a little game called Mafia here on VBForums. The following are the rules:

Roles
Civilian – Basic role for the forces of good. Civilian can do nothing at night, and during the day they try to lynch goons of the mafia. Doesn’t know the role of any other player.
Mafia Goon - The Mafia know each other and can talk to each other at night. Each night, they choose a victim from the rest of the players. When day breaks, the victim is dead. The goal for the Mafia is to survive while killing everyone else in town.
One of the Goons will be named the Boss and that is who tells me who they killed in the night phase. It is up to the rest of the mafia to ensure that the boss doesn't just decide who to kill on his own. If this does occur, the rest of the mafia can tell me and that player will lose Boss status. If the boss dies, another goon will become the new boss.
Doctor - A very powerful ally to the Town. Each night before the mafia chooses their target, the Doctor contacts the game moderator, choosing one player to protect during the night from a night kill. The doctor can’t save himself. Doesn’t know the role of any other player.
Cop - The Cop can investigate one player each night and find out their role. At the beginning, doesn’t know the role of any other player.

Roles are assigned randomly.

Phases
Day Phase – Civilians try to figure out who the mafia is. There is a vote to decide which player to execute. Be warned! Mafia goons will most likely try to act like civilians and have the ability to vote as well. All living players can vote.
Night Phase – No one can talk in the thread in this phase. Players are free to send Private Messages though. The mafia gets together via private message or chat room and decides on a player to kill. They don’t necessarily need to target a civilian; they can choose to kill one of themselves off. The doctor tries to get a private message sent to the moderator before the mafia kills off a player. The doctor may choose one person to save from death. If the mafia targets this player, their attack will be unsuccessful. The cop may private message the moderator asking for the role of one player during the night phase. Again, this must be done before the mafia kills their target. Once the mafia has declared their target to me, the night phase ends.

The cop may choose to share his knowledge with the civilians, but this will most likely make him a target for the mafia in the next night phase. Mafia members may try to impersonate the cop to confuse civilians.

When you die, you may no longer talk in the thread. It is also bad sportsmanship-like to share your knowledge about the rest of the players outside of the thread when you are dead.

There will be approximately a 2:3 ratio between mafia members and civilians. There will be one cop and one doctor.

When you cast your vote in the day phase, color the person’s name in red. You must post a reason for why you are voting for the player. You may withdraw your vote before the ending of the day phase. If you decide to do this, color your withdraw text in blue. You may not vote for multiple players at a time. To change your vote, withdraw first, then vote again.

I will be the game moderator. The game starts in the day phase. I will be the one that the mafia killed the night before. If you wish to join, reply to this thread. Feel free to ask any questions in the thread as well. We will need at least 7 people to play.

The mafia game has now begun. This post marks the start of the game.

A darkness has befallen VBForums. It seems that the mafia has decided to declare VBForums as its new home. I am the spirit of Arrow_Raider. Last night, a shadowy figure arrived in my bedroom and struck my head with a lead pipe, crushing my skull and killing me instantly. Daylight is now upon us, and it is time for the civilians to rise up and stop the mafia from killing more innocent people. The day phase has begun. It is scheduled to end at 7:00 PM EDT (GMT -4) on Wednesday the 17th.

When you cast your vote in the day phase, color the person’s name in red. You must post a reason for why you are voting for the player. You may withdraw your vote before the ending of the day phase. If you decide to do this, color your withdraw text in blue. You may not vote for multiple players at a time. To change your vote, withdraw first, then vote again. *sigh* 7pm Wednesday... that means 9am Thursday for me! Long wait. I'm not voting for anyone, it would be a "lynch in the dark" if you will.

So we have to vote for somone to kill?

That's what I'm gathering. Whom should I vote for... who could be in the mafia... it's anyone's guess right now.

Just to be clear, you post your votes in this thread, not through PM. The mafia durring the night phase chooses who dies through PM, but in the day phase when everyone votes, it is all done publically. The first day phase is challenging to decide who to vote for. However, you can look at stuff like who has posted so far, who hasn't, how many times has that person posted, what their attitude was like, what their content of the post was: was it joke? was it an accusation? was it a question about another member? You must use stuff like this initially and just try to make an educated guess as to why that person is doing what they are doing and what it may mean about their role in the game. Then as people start voting, see who is voting for who and think about their reasoning for casting that particular vote. Do you agree with it? Does it seem plausible? In later rounds you can look at more evidence like: if people start consistently following the vote of someone else.

I'm thinking about voting for kregg.. just because I don't like spam.

I vote kregg because it's good to gang up on people.

I vote for metalmidget, because he was the first pipe up and implicitly deny he is part of the mafia.

Of course if he is part of the mafia, and you all vote for Kregg, and I get whacked first, I guess we'll know for sure then.

I would have voted for kregg anyway, just because he's spam. I don't like spam.
