question about internet explorer
I've noticed that my username and other stuff that I put in search engines are being saved somewhere. I mean, when I type something in the textboxes like in username or google, previous text that I've typed are still being shown. I tried deleting history, deleting cookies and internet files, but it still there. How do you remove that?

Re: question about internet explorer
I think that is covered by AutoComplete, on the Content tab of the options. There are buttons in there to clear your previous entries.

Re: question about internet explorer
Easy fix...switch to FireFox :thumb:

There is a slight difference between IE6 and IE7
For IE6:
Click on Tools/Internet Options
Click on the Content Tab
Click Autocomplete in the Personal Information section
Click on Clear Forms to clear the current history
If you want to disable Autocomplete make sure you uncheck Forms
For IE7:
Click on Tools/Internet Options
Click on the General Tab
Click on Delete in the Browsing History section
Click on Delete Forms

Not an option in my shop.....all company laptops and desktops are rolled out with a restriction which only allows the use of IE.

Can you give few reasons, why such restrictions are followed.

Why should he have to? You people flaunt firefox as if it were a religion. It's disgusting.
Anyways, something that isn't widely known is that you can delete specific entries from auto complete instead of just removing all of them. While the auto complete suggestions are being shown, hover over the one you wish to remove and press delete. That will remove just that entry.

I have no idea. I'm not management; never have been; never will be.
This decision was made way, way above me and was in place before I even got here.

My company has similar restrictions. Except they only allow us to use IE 6 (which I hate), so I worked around the restrictions and got myself FF. :thumb:

Re: question about internet explorer
I actually tried to get FireFox once. I successfully downloaded it, but when I tried to install it as a browswer (not even my default browser), I got an error message telling me I was bad boy and would not be allowed to do this.
Oh well, IE is fine at work. I can use what I want at home. :D

Same thing in my company.

I know of several other folks in several other companies that also have this restriction.
I honestly do not believe it is all that uncommon for large corporations to indicate [insert name here] will be the standard, and that is that - nothing else can be used.

On that point it is ok. For a personal PC it want be a case, I think. Auto complete is so useful. That's why I use FF.

Re: question about internet explorer
Actually, some of our computers at work have to have firefox on them. All of our computers have been upgraded to internet explorer 7, but there is one site that we use that still doesn't work with IE7. It does work with firefox though.

Re: question about internet explorer
I can't give out the name, and it's restricted access anyways. We sell a certain brand of stuff. This brand has a website that resellers of their stuff use to do things on it. It works on IE6 and firefox, but it doesn't work on IE7. On IE7, whenever you do something that switches you to a different page, the new page comes up in a new tab. After a few minutes of working, you will have like 20 tabs up. I think this is related to the bug involving iframes and IE7. If you do "something"(i'm not sure what) to an iframe, it do that something in a new tab instead. Or something like that.
We already told them of the problem obviously. And of course they said it was a high priority to fix, and of course it still isn't fixed a year later from when we first reported it.

I think he meant:
Is this question resolved? To delete autocomplete items, just hover your mouse over the item in the auto complete drop down box and press the delete key.

hmm 22 post for some one to say that... i thought all of us here were smart...

Re: question about internet explorer
I know this is old, but all the discussion about IE and FF I just had to post.
First off, FF is more secure and has a boat-load of free add-ons, AdBlock and FlashBlock being very popular and easy to use. I also like IE Tab, Cookie Safe, and Quick Java.
The main reason I posted is you can download a free, standalone and portable FF browser from PortableApps.com that doesn't require installation. The main use is obviously portability but should circumvent your workplace policy.
That's really insane. I don't see what danger one browser is over another.

Re: question about internet explorer
FireFox is the best browser. If websites were coded for only one browser (Firefox), that would be nice. Lets start a petition to ban Internet Explorer!
Just playing. It would be great if we could view Internet Explorer like websites in Firefox.

So you would want a lot of content coded for IE, Opera, Safari, Netscape, Camino, and a boat load of others to break?
Pipe dream, bud.

Re: question about internet explorer
this questions been awnsered so please mark it resolved.
IE7 is alot easier for deleting browsing history. you only need to click one button. IE6 you have to go on options> autocomplete and delete ity seperatley.
