Aren't humans referred to as a mob or a mass (i.e. a mass of humanity or a mob scene)? Assuming you meant human mathematicians...I would guess that either mass of mathematicians or mob would be appropriate.
How about a set or a matrix?
Matrix of Mathematicians.....I like that choice!
