Never seen it used in the past tense like that before. I've only seen it used as a noun: "My boss put the kybosh on funding for the conference." Pronounced: Kah-bawsh

What the kybosh?
If someone has put the kybosh on something, it's dead, killed, finito, end of story. In my example, the boss killed any possibility for funding for the conference.
I think it's Yiddish in origin.
