As with anything, its value is dependent on your need.
If you need nifty looking icons to polish your apps but you don't want to pay for them, then that would mean your app would lack polish (this is not necessarily true, but it would be true if you believe it to be.)
So, the real question becomes, how badly do you want to polish your app.
As I have said many, many times, rarely will you find the words "good" and "free" in the same sentence.
@ Hack: Im very picky when it comes to looks and the "final product" sort of polish. Ive been hunting around for free icons and nutting took my fancy. I visited www.iconshock.com and bought a lovely (and extremely large) set for $129.
Well worth it IMO. I may only be starting out but i do like to keep my apps professional, not mater how easy they are to everyone else.
Thanks for the imput Hack
Just out of curiousity....are they all .ico files, or a mixture of various image files?
No there all diferent sizes and formats. Im using some of them for just graphics around my applications. ya get PNG, GIF, ICO, BMP and from 16x16 up to 256x256
you can get a catolog (PDF) from there site
I think I will check that out. Thanks for the tip!
btw hack, they offer one catogory for $129 but when you go to pay, for an extra $10 they will offer the whole section your looking at. So you get a huge amount more than is advertised
here is a thought. i dont know if this is leagal or not hehe. but here is wat i did:
fine an icon that you like then hit print screen. then wat you do is past it in pant or any other image editing software. then you only take out the portion that you want. only that icon. Now go to google and search for "RealWorld" icon maker. it has a free trial period. i think its around like a month so you will have plenty of time to make your icon. so wat you do is import it and resize it. Then all you need to do is hit export and it will give you a nice .ico file with the icon that you wanted.
Yuor idea has one flaw man, i was looking for a full icon sutie. in the rgion of 1500 icons. It would take way to look to do that!
@Hack, did you buy the icons in the end?
ohhh. in that case never mind :-)
i only needed a few so it worked for me fine.
Thats still considered stealing and if you use it in a commercial paid app then you can get sued for even more.Quote:

Yup it always pays to follow the rules as when you get caught its totally not worth the savings. Plus, how would you feel if someone stold your app and didnt pay for it. ;)
Agreed. If i ever had pirated software i always bought it if i was going to use it. Besides with all the trials now availble there is no need to go stealing software, or icons.
