It is a programming language to make dynamic web pages ;)Quote:

Of course it is, it has object-oriented programming features and it is based upon othe rprogramming languages. So indeed it is ;)
It started as a scripting language but over years its capabilities have been extended to a point where you can actually call PHP an almost fully featured programming language.
Of course it's a programming language, you can write Hello World in it.
thank you all for agreeing with me. Timeshifter would beg to differ. he thinks it is not a programming language.
What eveidence did he give you that it isn't :ehh:
none, he just likes making me feel like i dont know a real programming language, and he does. And that is supposed to make him better then me.
:)
Its a much better language than some BASIC versions (VB obviously not ;)) and languages like D.
Do a General Developer search for PHP...you will discover a number of threads on this language which are very supportive.
Oh common HL - that's not fair comparison - 30 years old vs current... :)Quote:

PHP is not a Turing-complete langauge, but still a programming language.Quote:
A programming language is an artificial language that can be used to control the behavior of a machine, particularly a computer. Programming languages, like human languages, are defined through the use of syntactic and semantic rules, to determine structure and meaning respectively.
Programming languages are used to facilitate communication about the task of organizing and manipulating information, and to express algorithms precisely. Some authors restrict the term "programming language" to those languages that can express all possible algorithms;[1] sometimes the term "computer language" is used for more limited artificial languages.
Thousands of different programming languages[2] have been created, and new languages are created every year.
A good example of a turning complete langauge is my favorite: COW http://www.bigzaphod.org/cow/
Again, Timeshifter is trying to tell me that PHP is not a "real" language.
please support me in proving him wrong
May I ask what languages timeshifter knows? Last time I talked to him he was a fairly proficient Visual Basic 6 programmer.. thats hardly a "proper programming language" by many peoples standards :p
