Re: What is this problem?
Are you trying to install Visual Studio 6.0 or Service Pack 5?
If its Service Pack 5 then I would download Service Pack 6.0 ;)
Re: What is this problem?
Thanks for the quick reply, I have recently tried installing VS5 and VS6. Both give the same problem. I am not sure what the problem is.

Re: What is this problem?
I didn't know there was a VS5.
Anyway I've never had a problem installing VB6 Pro, VB3 and VB4 16 bit on WinXP. ;)
Re: What is this problem?
Are you running the Visual Basic install CD, or the service pack CD first?
Re: What is this problem?
Kiethek : Sorry I ment Service Pack 5 and Service Pack 6, not VS5 and VS6 Lol
I run the service pack cd first. But the install cuts out in the middle of it, so i never get it to finish.

Re: What is this problem?
I've had that error. It happens after you start the install process. I just started it back up again after it rebooted my machine and it picked up where it left off.
Re: What is this problem?
I have rebooted, i actually am trying it on numerous computers and its doing the same error. But my CD isn't scratched or anything its all good.

Re: What is this problem?
Since you just re-formated make sure that all updates for the operating system have been installed.
Re: What is this problem?
I have it's fully updated. I do have windows XP service pack 2.. and my older computer was windows XP service pack 1. Could that have changed it?

Re: What is this problem?
It is possible (we all know how fussy certain programs can be) but I have the same configuration and it installed perfectly for me.
Now after a quick google 'god' has revealed to me that you should try uninstalling anything thats there (to do with VB). Reboot. Install Visual Basic only. Reboot into safe mode. Install the service pack. Reboot.
It should hopefully work then. If not remember google is your best friend.
Edit: Out of curiosity what happens when you try and run VB after it has failed?
Re: What is this problem?
Hmm when i bought it, it didn't come with a visual basic cd. It came with a microsoft 2000 visual basic install, but it says it can't install untill the service pack is installed. Which errors when i attempt to install it. :\

Re: What is this problem?
Any news on this? I experience a similar problem: installed VS 60 Enterprise Edition, which gave some registering problems at the end of the procedure. I could explain these errors by checking on the objects to beregistered and finding them registered already.
Now I need to install SP6 and receive the same message as ShimmyShine. On the pc of a collegue the execution of the SP6 runs flawless. Obviously there is a difference in the Laptops. Any idea what this can be? I really don't think the solution about first installing WXP with SP1, then installing VS60 + sp and then installing WXP SP2 is a workable solution; as I mentioned, it runs without problem on another laptop.
Help?
Re: What is this problem?
Forget my previous post. It seems the laptop has gone haywire. I've got another 1 and things proceed smoothly here.
Re: What is this problem?
Lol its nice to know you got your problem fixxed.. but mine isn't.. :\ And its really annoying becuase I have a program i want to finish..

Re: What is this problem?
For what it's worth: in my case the VS60 was flagged Installed Unsuccesfully. This prevented the servicepack from installing.
Now, why this was flagged as such, that is the main question, though installation did end with this message; however, I could use VS, but not apply sp6...
Hope you solve your problem.
edit: Oh yes, and I still do not have my own laptop returned...
