Help With Problem

Please help me with these 2 problems:

1. These planks have been piled on top of each other at a construction
site. Where is the highest point located, at A, B, C, D, or E? (Picture attached)


2. At the fairground there is a competition – you can purchase a ticket
on which there is a number of scratch-off squares. One square is
marked “loser”; two others have identical symbols. If these appear
before the loser square appears, you win. The odds against winning
are 2:1.
How many squares are there on the card?

A – 3, B – 5, C- Unable to find out, D – 7, E – Doesn’t make a
difference
