Onboard Video Not Working
My buddy handed me his computer to try and fix the onboard video. For some reason when you turn the computer on, the monitor never fires up. I figured I'd try to let it sit for a while becuase it might just have been going slow but after about five minutes I realized that wasn't the case. I checked the motherboard and there aren't any DIP switches on it so I'm guessing that the onboard is controlled from the BIOS but wait... I can't seem to see the BIOS at all because the monitor won't fire up with the computer! Any suggestions as to what I should do?
Re: Onboard Video Not Working
Hi, did it use to have an AGP or PCIE card? Or did it just stop working?
If it use to have a separate card, put one in and go into the bios and reconfigure, or take the battery out for a second and place it back in (with the power off) to reset the bios (loose all previous settings).
If it had just stopped working, then probably a bad motherboard.
You could try a seperate AGP/PCIE card (whichever slot it has) and see if that works for now, though the cost of one of those (if you can find a low cost AGP card), if its an old Motherboard, he might want to just upgrade one time.

No the video port is built directly onto the motherboard and as far as I know he never used a PCI video card.
I'm going to try resetting the BIOS first and see if that helps at all and if it doesn't then I'm going to try the PCI video card. If neither of these methods work then am I to assume that the motherboard is faulty?

After resetting the bios and if the onboard video still doesnt work, then its more than likely a bad motherboard.
