Is it necessary to purchase a digital signature if I am going to be selling my software? If so, what is a good company, and how much can I expect to pay for this? Is this a service that needs to be renewed, or is it permanant?
Thanks,
Jason

Yes, you should purchase a certificate otherwise people may not want to trust your app and some policies wont allow it to be installed.
Check Verisign as they are the major forerunner in certs and there are a few others that are cheaper. There was a thread on the forums recently posting a link to a site where it was less then $100.
Thanks,
I am looking at Verisign right now. If I am selling five different programs, will each one require purchasing an addition signature, or can the same one be applied to all? Does anybody know any cheaper companies than Verisign?
Thanks
Yes, if you search the forums there was a good thread on checp sigs. :)
one more question,
I see that you pay by the year for these, does that mean that after they expire,
all the programs I have already distributed will be expired, or just programs that I issue after they expire?
I cant say for certain as I havent purchased a public sig yet. They should have something on Verisign that should say.
Moved.
How do public signatures work?
and if companies like verisign can make them, why is it that people dont just make their own?
Because if anyone could make them then how could you rely and trust them that the code signed is not malicious. It would be like placing a child in charge of a candy store.
take a look
