At a loss for words...

Today I got a phone call that a parent doesnt like to get. My youngest dauger had a bad accident after school at the park. She fell of the swings head first and sprained her neck and got a bad gash on her upper lip to her nose. :cry:

We are finally home from the hospital now and she is resting after getting stitches. All xray's turned out negative for spinal damage. She is going have to have some cosmetic surgery later after the cut heals and the swelling goes down. I know this is going to cost me thousands of dollars but since we dont have insurance you know I just had to do what was necessary and best for my daughter. I'll figure something out later as the money is not the important thing right now.

I tell you there is nothing worse then seeing your kid in serious pain. So if I'm not around for a while, its because I'm taking care of her.

I guess I started out finding it hard to know what to say, but seem it just flowed once I started writting.

Got to go. See you guys when I can and sorry if I dont respond to PMs on a timely basis.

My dad had an cardiac attack in 2002 (and had an cerebral attack at hospital). The doctors said there is only 1/1000 chance. And my dad was that 1 lucky person. Thanks to modern medicine, and his will power, he was able to go office after 1 month of rest.

My mom got burned last June. She was hospitalised for 22 days. She has diabetes. It took more than 4 months for full recovery. Last month she has started going to her job.

I think I know exactly what you are going through. :(
Don't worry. Everything will be fine. Right now you just need to encourage her.

I know how you feel Rob, and im very sorry to hear that. There is nothing worse than having your kid in pain.

My son has had 2 bad accidents - first one he decided to ride his firetruck down the stairs when he was two. Wound up knocking his front tooth back 45 degrees... eventually we had to get it pulled. Second, when he was 7 (last year) he slipped on the ppol deck at swim lessons and knocked a tooth clean out, plus tore the inside of his lip really bad. It is the WORST feeling to see them in pain and not be able to do anything. I wished so bad that i could take the pain instead of him. we were lucky in the fact that nothing was external as far as injuries...

With todays technology, im sure your daughter will be fine and back to her beautiful self. Keep us posted. Take care.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. :thumb: She is already starting to get a bit better: only wearing her neck brace for 1/2 the day, minor scrapes scabing up, swelling starting to go down some, and made it to the living room to watch a movie with me last night.

I have been cooking her meals, serving her in bed, getting her anythng she wants, and keeping track of medications and times. Its just hard trying to get her spirits up. She is depressed about it as any teenage girl would be.

Tomorrow we go to the Dr. for a check up and today I am getting ready to head out to her school to take care of her missing classes for the next weeks. Next week we go again to the Dr. for the removal of her stitches. I can count about 8 or so stitches that I can see. So many things to do as usualy but I just wanted to post an update as I was checking my emails and trying to hold down any client's issues.

Got to go, will post another update when I have time. I will pass along the well wishes to her. Thanks everyone.

Great news! 8 stiches isnt bad - most of the scarring can be reduced to a minimum by using vitamin E and high SPF sun-tan lotion.

Pay for it the easy way by suing the city. Unless there was a sign that said "use swings at your own risk", I'd say you've got a case.

Sound like the UK health Care system let her down this time ..

I know she probably doesn't feel like it but she's lucky to only have 8 stitches, could have been much worse. All the best to her for a speed recovery :thumb: :thumb:

Great to hear she is doing better,
I remember when I or my brothers were ill as kids our mother would
serve us oxtail soup in mixing bowls with huges chunks of bread in it.

That was the only time she would serve it to us like that, I absolutely loved it.

Sorry to hear that Rory. My condolences go out to you and your family.

I hear the UK health system is allot better then ours. We had to wait 1.5 hours in the emergency room. Totally sucked.

We went to the Dr. on Friday and they found that her cut with the stitches was infected. Probably the Dr missed cleaning it out well. He was probably in a hurry as he was the only Dr in that wing of the ER. It did take a long time stitching her up (1.5 hours) so I wouldnt have expected an infection. Semi-good news though, I was able to get a 20% discount at the Dr's office for paying right after the visit. Only thing was that it was $278 and I had to put it on the credit card. At this rate it will probably total somehwere around $4,000 - $5,000. :(

The hardest part is seeing her depressed about being scared and it looks like when the swelling goes down the nose will need some minor correcting with plastic surgery. Sure we can say its better to be alive but you know how teenage girls are concerned with their looks. It just hard to see her hurt and scared.

If I ever get a daughter, I'm not letting her outside.

I felt the same way many years ago when my first daughter was born and started school but then you start to realize that they have to learn things and experience stuff in order to learn and become strong. Its even harder now as there are so many influences and troubles with all the gangs, party crews, and over crowding at the schools. All you can do is try to tech them so they can be prepared and make the best choices in life.

At least your daughter is doing fine! That's the main important bit! Keep the chin up and later on in life you'll be able to look back on this and laugh about it

Thanks. I took her to the Dr yesterday and they removed her stitches. All looks ok so far but one part where they couldnt get stitches placed. So it will be this area that isnt healing correctly that we will need to take care of.

Trying to get her into the dentist this week for fixing of a couple of chipped teeth. Hopefully things will start to settle down this week.

Its really hard to sit here and post for any length as I hurt my back bad Sunday. It hurt so bad I amost wasnt able to take her to the dr yesterday. Doing better today though. One step at a time I guess lol. Posting does take my mind off of things though :D

Ya know, it sounds dangerous to be around you these days.

I did something like that when I was young, hit a frozen stump head first while sledding. My neck was basically paralyzed for a couple of days, and I had a good scrape from jaw to hairline on one side of my face. Had to go to a cheap doctor....I really hated wearing that lamp shade for the next week. The other kids said I'd gone to a vet. I told them I didn't know anything about his military history.

Ok, that got a bit off track. Basically, this too shall pass. With good medical care, life will just suck for a bit, then get better. She sholdn't worry all that much about scarring...not that even suggesting that would make a bit of difference....it matters less than people fear.
