disabled startup reg keys[resolved]
hey guys
when you disable something in the start up does the key in the registry get deleted? or does it get moved to another place? i was under the assumption that the value would be changed. if it gets moved does anyone know where it gets moved to in the registry?
Re: disabled startup reg keys
How did you "disable" it? What program is it that is in your startup reg jey?
Re: disabled startup reg keys
It doesn't and the bad thing is you cant delete it from the UI either. It has to be removed manually from the registry.
Re: disabled startup reg keys
there is no specific program im just wondering how it works for my own knowledge but to make up a senario just say msn messenger is the program that is starting up that i disabled through msconfig (win xp pro) what happens to the reg key when i unclick the check box beside the object ?

Re: disabled startup reg keys
I'm not talking about 3rd party apps.I meant the inbuilt msconfig>startup UI

Re: disabled startup reg keys
it deletes it from the registry right away.
Re: disabled startup reg keys
really ? damn thanks for the reply rory
Re: disabled startup reg keys
you can actually test it, open up regedit, goto
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
(or current user for some software)
Open Msconfig and Uncheck an item and click apply.
Refresh the registry.
